Judd Trump booked a spot in the last 64 and the televised stages of the 2024 International Championship after he defeated Chris Totten, 6-1, in round one on Monday.

The vast majority of round one matches in this £825,000 ranking event are being played across three days (September 30 to October 2) at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, with the winners qualifying for the main venue phase in Nanjing, China between November 3-10.

Trump - winner of the International Championship in 2012 and 2019 - went one frame down to world number 107 Totten before stringing together six consecutive frames along with breaks of 54, 66, 103, 60 and 71. The world number one will face either Sanderson Lam or Alexander Ursenbacher in the Far East in several weeks time.

Mark Williams was another star name who progressed to round two. The three-time World Champion was not occupied for too long as he posted runs of 75, 100, 79 and 58 in a 6-0 whitewash over rookie Haris Tahir.

The night after being defeated by Mark Selby in the British Open final, John Higgins was back on the baize as he top scored with a 119 en route to a 6-1 victory against Ken Doherty in a rerun of the 1998 World Championship final.

Jimmy White qualified for the TV stages of the upcoming Northern Ireland Open over the weekend, but had a result to forgot today as he lost 6-0 to Anthony Hamilton.

Recent English Open finalist Wu Yize is set to travel for a home event in China as he defeated Hong Kong's Wang Yuchen, 6-4. Wu led 3-0 before Wang claimed four frames in-a-row to go ahead 4-3, although momentum shifted again as Wu took the next three for victory.

Un-Nooh misses final black for 147 break

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh advanced to the main venue in China following a 6-4 win over Lei Peifan, but the Thai ace was left anguished at the end of frame two when he missed a very tricky final black for the fifth maximum 147 break of his professional career.

Un-Nooh potted the final pink - which was in the baulk area - but landed very awkwardly on the black with the cueball near the top cushion. Trying to cut it in, the 39-year-old got close, but not close enough.

It is the third time that the former Snooker Shoot Out winner has come up one pot short of perfection on the sport's top tier following 140s at the 2015 UK Championship and 2016 World Championship qualifiers.

Later in the match, Un-Nooh also crafted a 102.

Fan Zhengyi (139), Xiao Guodong (131), Stuart Bingham (119) and Anthony McGill (121) all registered century breaks during their wins.

Dean Young compiled a match-winning effort of 94 in the deciding frame to oust Tian Pengfei, 6-5, after Tian battled back from 5-1 down.

Whilst Tian was denied a big comeback victory from 5-1 behind, his Chinese compatriot Xu Si wasn’t. In a match that was concluded in an unscheduled second session, Xu won five successive frames to pip the USA’s Ahmed Aly Elsayed, 6-5.

Daniel Womersley made his very late call-up to the event count as he dismissed Liam Davies, 6-2.

Dylan Emery - who like Womersley doesn’t currently have a professional tour card - can also plan his trip to China following a 6-3 win over Scott Donaldson. Emery (100 break - frame four) eventually got over the line after Donaldson rallied from 5-0 down.

Chris Wakelin, Pang Junxu, Ben Mertens, Martin O’Donnell, Jamie Clarke and Haydon Pinhey also progressed on Monday. Q School graduate Pinhey defeated six-time ranking event champion Stephen Maguire, 6-2.
