2024 Wuhan Open Snooker: Wednesday 9th October Preview, Matches, Order of Play

Four tables will be in operation across afternoon and evening sessions in the Far East, with matches continuing to be the best of nine frames.

The standout fixture of round four is surely Judd Trump versus John Higgins; stars who have defeated each other in a World Championship final and both recently passed the 1,000 career century breaks in professional competition milestone.

Trump has won their last nine meetings in ranking events, but Higgins - who last tasted success over Trump in a ranker at the 2018 China Championship - is in fine form having recently made the British Open final and returned to the world’s top 16 rankings.

Elsewhere in the afternoon session in China, top 16 exponents Shaun Murphy and Ali Carter clash, while there is a tasty encounter between the free-flowing talents of Wu Yize and Jack Lisowski. Ben Woollaston v Long Zehuang is the other fixture during the opening session.

In the evening, home hero Ding Junhui - who has claimed 15 of the last 17 frames he has competed in in this tournament - faces Chris Wakelin. They have only ever played each once on the top tier, and that was back in 2017.

Barry Hawkins has gone under the radar, so far, and the four-time ranking event winner’s next challenge is Xiao Guodong, who was the conqueror of World Champion Kyren Wilson in the previous round.

Two more Chinese cueists are in action on the programme and both will start as favourites to reach the quarter-finals as Zhang Anda plays Mark Joyce - who currently doesn’t have a professional tour card - and Si Jiahui shares the baize with Duane Jones.
