World number one Judd Trump produced one of the best performances of the season as he whitewashed Hossein Vafaei 5-0 to breeze into the semi-finals of the 2025 World Grand Prix.

Trump - who is a three-time former champion of this event - moves into Saturday's semi-finals, which will be played in a spectacular one-table set-up at the newly opened Kai Tak Sports Park arena in Hong Kong.

Number one seed Trump hadn't played since his 4-2 opening round win against Gary Wilson on Tuesday, due to friend Jack Lisowski withdrawing from their scheduled last 16 encounter because of personal reasons.

The stall was set out early by Trump who compiled a 145 total clearance in the first frame of his quarter-final tie with Vafaei. The effort meant he went back in line for the tournament's £10,000 highest break bonus prize; Trump initially held it for a 142 he made in round one, although both John Higgins and Shaun Murphy had bettered that total by one point since.

Trump doubled his advantage with frame two, before producing breaks of 108 and 115 in consecutive frames to go into the mid-session interval 4-0 up.

On resumption, the 35-year-old Englishman upped the ante again, as he scored an ultra-rare 146 total clearance to complete the clean sweep - his third century in-a-row, and his fourth in total of the match.

As well as setting yet another highest break target for the £700,000 ranking event, the 146 becomes the biggest break ever made in World Grand Prix history, eclipsing the 145 Trump made in 2017 and earlier in the evening, and Murphy’s effort last year.

For the season, Hong Kong resident Trump has now made 84 century breaks, and is 16 away from collecting a £100,000 bonus if he can reach 100 before the 2024/25 campaign closes at the Crucible Theatre.

As for Vafaei, he can be proud of his efforts this week as he has been struggling with an ongoing spinal problem which was causing pain to his neck and shoulder.

Vafaei didn’t originally qualify for this 32-player Players Series event, but got in as a reserve when Ronnie O’Sullivan withdrew a few days before the start. The 30-year-old - who was visibly in discomfort during his tie with Trump - plans to go and visit Iran’s Olympic doctor before his next professional outing which will be the World Championship qualifiers in Sheffield next month.
