Kyren Wilson has become only the 14th player in snooker history to have compiled 500 or more century breaks in professional competition.

The reigning World Champion reached the magical milestone with an effort of 103 as he won the deciding frame of his first round match against Marco Fu in the 2025 Welsh Open at the Venue Cymru.

World number two Wilson made breaks of 73 and 66 during a three-frame winning streak as he recovered from losing the opening frame of their best-of-seven encounter in Llandudno.

However, three-time ranking event winner Fu - who has been short of limelight appearances in recent years for one reason or another - showed his class as efforts of 79 and 139 drew him level at 3-3 to force the decider.

Wilson's ton in the seventh and final frame was exactly his 500th in top tier play, and only 13 players in the history of the sport have made more than him.

Ronnie O'Sullivan - snooker's greatest-ever breakbuilder - is still on top of the 'most century breaks' list as he approaches his next landmark of 1,300. O'Sullivan has also fashioned the most maximum 147 breaks in professional tournaments with 15.

Judd Trump and John Higgins are second and third respectively on the all-time list; both passed the 1,000 tons point earlier this season. Higgins is second to O'Sullivan on the overall 147 count with 13.

The next player for Wilson to chase on the centuries list is Stephen Maguire.

'The Warrior' has enjoyed a red-hot start to 2025 having made the final of all three World Snooker Tour professional events, so far.

In January, he narrowly missed out on a maiden Masters crown when he was defeated by Shaun Murphy in the final at the Alexandra Palace, although just a fortnight later he was lifting another trophy following a deciding frame triumph over Barry Hawkins in the title match to claim the second German Masters accolade of his career.

Within 72 hours of that success at the Tempodrom in Berlin, Wilson got to the final of the Championship League Invitational in Leicester, although he was denied the top prize by Mark Selby, who successfully defended the title.

Next up for Wilson at the ongoing Welsh Open is Joe O'Connor in the last 32 on Wednesday.

Victory for Wilson over Fu keeps him in the chase for the £150,000 BetVictor Home Nations Series bonus race which is currently led by Neil Robertson, who won his opening round match on the North Wales coast earlier this week.
