2024 Scottish Open Snooker Information: Draw, results, format, prize money, schedule, how to watch

World Snooker Tour
The 2024 Scottish Open ranking event is the third leg of this season's four-pronged Home Nations Series, with the main venue and televised stages taking place at the Meadowbank Centre in Edinburgh between December 9-15.

The opening two rounds for the event - featuring those not seeded in the top 32 - were played at Ponds Forge in Sheffield (October 28-30). A total of 32 players qualified for the final rounds in Scotland, where they are set to face one of the top seeds in round three (last 64).

Competitors in the Scottish Open aim to lift The Stephen Hendry Trophy. The event - with the new trophy - was resurrected in 2016 as part of the new Home Nations Series concept and has been played every season since the 2016/17 campaign.

For the first time this season, the BetVictor Bonus consists of the Home Nations Series events only, meaning the player who earns the most cumulative prize money across the four NHS events will pocket a cool £150,000 additional purse. At the time of writing, Neil Robertson leads that race having won the opening English Open, although Northern Ireland Open champion Kyren Wilson is not far behind in the standings.

Gary Wilson is the reigning Scottish Open snooker champion; he has won the last two editions in 2022 and 2023, and is currently on a 14-match winning streak in the competition. A potted history on the Scottish Open is here.

As is the case with all Home Nations Series events this season, there is an increased total prize fund (£550,400) and first prize (£100,000).

What is the format for the 2024 Scottish Open Snooker?

All professional tour card holders were eligible to enter the Scottish Open (and all Home Nations Series events).

A total of 128 contestants entered the tournament, this included professional players, two ‘local’ amateur wildcards, and Q School top-ups who were invited to fill the remaining spaces.

As with all Home Nations Series events for the 2024/25 season, there is a tiered draw in place meaning the top 32 seeds don’t start their campaigns until round three (last 64).

  • Rounds 1 to 5: all matches are the best of 7 frames
  • Quarter-finals: best of 9 frames (with mid-session interval)
  • Semi-finals: best of 11 frames (with mid-session interval)
  • Final: best of 17 frames - two sessions with scheduled mid-session intervals

Who is playing in the 2024 Scottish Open snooker event?

All but three of the world’s top 32 - at the time of writing - are set to play at the 2024 Scottish Open and are in the draw below, starting their campaigns in round three (last 64).

This includes defending champion Gary Wilson who is going for an incredible three-peat.

World Champion Kyren Wilson and Neil Robertson - winners of this season’s opening two Home Nations Series events - are scheduled to compete. Judd Trump, Mark Williams and Ronnie O’Sullivan all entered the tournament, but have since withdrawn.

Ding Junhui enters his first Home Nations Series event of the 2024/25 term after skipping the English and Northern Ireland Opens.
