2024 Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters: World number 106 Lei Peifan sets up Ronnie O'Sullivan date

World Snooker Tour
Round four of the inaugural Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters got underway on Monday afternoon at the Green Halls in Riyadh, with cueists aiming to reach the last 32 and set up a date with one of the world's top 16 players.

Following three very intense and busy days of action in the Middle East at this new £2.3 million professional ranking event, the aura around the event begins to subtly change with fewer players in the practice room and matches increasing to the best of nine frames with a mid-session interval after four.

The first player through to Tuesday's round five was German Masters finalist Si Jiahui who whitewashed 2006 World Champion Graeme Dott, 5-0, along with breaks of 102, 75 and 82.

Si - a semi-finalist at the Crucible last year - is knocking on the door of a top 16 spot, and the 22-year-old, world number 22 will be looking to collect more ranking points against Tom Ford, next up.

Former European Masters Champion Jimmy Robertson inked a meeting with number 16 seed John Higgins after he dismissed Rory Thor, 5-0.

World number 106 Lei Peifan will play Ronnie O'Sullivan in round five after he registered runs of 76, 56 and 69 in a 5-2 victory over Joe O'Connor. 21-year-old Lei has made his way through from round one, winning a match in each of the past four days.

In arguably the tie of the session, Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh ousted Chris Wakelin in a dramatic deciding frame to progress to a match with Mark Williams.

Un-Nooh claimed the opening two frames, but Wakelin totted up breaks of 92, 78 and 55 as he went 3-2 ahead. He then moved further in front by taking frame six - despite his opponent fashioning an effort of 78 - although Un-Nooh shifted momentum again, winning the next two frames to force the contest all the way.

Wakelin got in first in the decider with a break of 52, but it was Un-Nooh who advanced with a counter-attacking contribution of 75.

World number 66 Liu Hongyu will challenge reigning World Champion and newly minted Xi'an Grand Prix Champion Kyren Wilson in the last 32 after ending Ashley Carty's campaign, 5-2.

On the TV table, Ben Woollaston caused a mini-upset as he eliminated Hossein Vafaei, 5-3, top scoring with a break of 133. Zhang Anda is Woollaston's next opponent.

Pang Junxu compiled an effort of 140 on his way to a 5-3 victory over Matthew Selt. The former ranking event finalist plays Luca Brecel tomorrow.

In a match full of experience, 2015 World Champion Stuart Bingham stopped the run of Anthony Hamilton (who had a 127), 5-3. It will be Bingham versus Ding Junhui in the last 32.
