2024 Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters: Tuesday's Round Five Matches, Order of Play

World Snooker Tour
It's day five of the 2024 Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, and the world's top 16 ranked professionals enter the stage to begin their campaigns for the £500,000 top prize on Saturday 7th September.

The most lucrative snooker tournament ever to be held outside of the United Kingdom, this new ranking event started with 144 players, but after four days and rounds of intense tiered draw action, we are now left with just 32.

From the initial phase of the competition, 16 players have emerged and will now face the top 16 in a predetermined draw. All matches in the last 32/round five are the best of nine frames, with a mid-session interval after four.

Losers in this upcoming round will bank £20,000, but if a top 16 seed loses their opening match, that amount won’t get added to their ranking points tally.

Ronnie O’Sullivan plays Lei Peifan in his first match

Ronnie O'Sullivan won the Riyadh invitational event earlier this year, and the seven-time World Champion will be aiming for a Saudi double and a record-extending 42nd career ranking title.

O'Sullivan meets world number 106 Lei Peifan, who is the only player surviving from round one of the event. The two have met only once before in professional competition, at the 2019 Northern Ireland Open last 64 stage when O'Sullivan won 4-2.

Reigning World Champion Kyren Wilson heads the top of the draw as the number one seed, and the newly minted Xi'an Grand Prix Champion faces world number 66 Liu Hongyu, a second season professional who made the semi-finals of the 2023 English Open in his rookie campaign.

It will be the first time that Wilson and 20-year-old Liu have played each other on snooker's top tier.

The biggest glamour tie of the round is between career Triple Crown winners Mark Selby and Neil Robertson who share the baize during the afternoon session.

The two have an incredibly close career head-to-head record; if you count all professional events, Selby leads 22-21 with one draw.

New world number one Judd Trump plays Wu Yize. Trump has won both their previous meetings, most recently a 6-1 success in the semi-finals of the 2023 Wuhan Open - an event Trump went on to claim.

The 2023 World Champion Luca Brecel came into this tournament 58th on the provisional end-of-season ranking list, but somewhat bizarrely he could finish it as the world number one. He is trying for his first match win in a ranking event since March 19th earlier this year when he meets Pang Junxu on Tuesday.

Recently dethroned world number one Mark Allen begins his quest back to the top against Xiao Guodong.
