2024 Northern Ireland Open Snooker Information: Draw, results, format, prize money, schedule, how to watch

World Snooker Tour
The main venue and televised stages of the 2024 Northern Ireland Open take place at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast between October 20-27.

Rounds one and two of the event - involving the lower ranked players in the competition - were played at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, England on September 28 & 29. The winners from those round two matches will meet the top 32 seeds in round three (last 64) in Belfast.

Three tables will initially be in operation for the eight-day event at the Waterfront and hopefuls aim to lift The Alex Higgins Trophy.

The 2024 Northern Ireland Open is the second Home Nations Series event of the season. Neil Robertson won the opening HNS event of the current campaign - the 2024 English Open - and therefore leads the race for the £150,000 BetVictor bonus.

A permanent fixture on the professional snooker circuit every season since the 2016/17 term, the 2024 staging of the Northern Ireland Open will be its ninth edition.

Judd Trump is the reigning Northern Ireland Open champion and the most successful player in the event's history with four title triumphs. A potted history on the competition is here.

As is the case with all Home Nations Series events this season, there is an increased total prize fund (£550,400) and first prize (£100,000).

Please note, Oliver Lines’ round one and potentially round two matches have been held over to the main venue in Belfast, as when he was due to play in Sheffield he was still competing in the overlapping British Open.

What is the format for the 2024 Northern Ireland Open Snooker?

All professional tour card holders were eligible to enter the Northern Ireland Open (and all Home Nations Series events).

A total of 128 contestants entered the tournament, this included professional players, two ‘local’ amateur wildcards, and Q School top-ups who were invited to fill the remaining spaces.

As with all Home Nations Series events for the 2024/25 season, there is a tiered draw in place meaning the top 32 seeds don’t start their campaigns until round three (last 64).

  • Rounds 1 to 5: all matches are the best of 7 frames
  • Quarter-finals: best of 9 frames (with mid-session interval)
  • Semi-finals: best of 11 frames (with mid-session interval)
  • Final: best of 17 frames - two sessions with scheduled mid-session intervals

Who is playing in the 2024 Northern Ireland Open and who has qualified for the tournament?

A star-studded cast of players is set to compete in Belfast during the final rounds of the 2024 Northern Ireland Open.

Reigning champion and world number one Judd Trump is poised to defend his title and faces an intriguing opening assignment against India's Ishpreet Singh Chadha.

Ronnie O'Sullivan is scheduled to return to Belfast, as too are several other big-hitters such as World Champion Kyren Wilson, Mark Selby, Mark Williams, John Higgins and Luca Brecel.

Local hero Mark Allen - back-to-back winner in 2021 and 2022 - is also looking forward to performing on home soil again.

Several very well-known names emerged from the initial rounds in Sheffield to meet the top ranked players, including 10-time ranking event winner Jimmy White who has a date with Hossein Vafaei.

Former Welsh Open champion Jordan Brown has made it to his home professional event, while Triple Crown event winners Graeme Dott and Matthew Stevens are also expected to be present at the Waterfront having qualified.
