It was a star-studded Monday in Nanjing as the round of 64 in the 2024 International Championship was completed, with several of snooker’s top ranked players advancing in the £825,000 ranking event.

World number one Judd Trump was in action during the morning session in the Far East and was not engaged for too long as he whitewashed Sanderson Lam 6-0, icing the win with a break of 107.

Defending champion Zhang Anda survived a huge scare in round one the day before - squeezing through on the final pink in a deciding frame - but was more comfortable in his second assignment as he top scored with a 106 in a 6-3 success over David Grace.

Ronnie O’Sullivan registered eight breaks over 50 as he got one over He Guoqiang to set up a round three tie on Tuesday with another tricky Chinese opponent in the form of Pang Junxu.

Reigning World Champion Kyren Wilson made it eight successive wins on the World Snooker Tour as he eliminated Liu Hongyu, 6-3.

The newly minted Northern Ireland Open champion rounded off his latest win with an effort of 143, the highest break of the tournament, so far, which puts him in pole position for a £5,000 bonus.

There was indeed a plethora of very big breaks during the second day of green baize action at the Nanjing Qinhuai District South New City National Fitness Centre.

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh struck a 138 in the opening frame of his 6-0 clean sweep against former World Champion Stuart Bingham. Barry Hawkins crafted a 128 and 107 in dismissing Joe Perry, 6-2, while Noppon Saengkham featured a 107 in his 6-1 win over Jimmy Robertson.

Recent English Open runner-up Wu Yize recovered from 3-0 down against Andrew Higginson, going on a six-frame burst - highlighted with breaks of 100 and 112 - in getting through.

Fellow young, exciting Chinese prospect Si Jiahui is another serious contender for the £175,000 top prize in the Far East this week. The world number 13 compiled a 120 in the opening frame of his contest with Ben Mertens, before taking the next four frames for a resounding 5-0 lead.

However, 20-year-old Mertens rallied in style, totting up runs of 75, 142 and 118 as he reduced the gap to two, but Si quashed his opponent’s hopes of a sensational comeback with a crucial 72 in frame nine for a 6-3 verdict.

Jack Lisowski was involved in a high-quality clash with professional rookie Gong Chenzhi that went the distance.

Teenager Gong constructed breaks of 121 and 94 on his way to reaching five frames first, but Lisowski - who made a 104 and 110 in successive frames during the middle of the tie - took the final two frames to squeeze through.

Neil Robertson makes four century breaks in stunning performance

The heavy scoring kept coming during the evening session, with Neil Robertson making breaks of 135, 102, 55, 135, 87 and 109 in a 6-0 whitewash of Fan Zhengyi.

Fan was only allowed to score 29 points throughout the whole match.

Robertson wasn’t the only cueist to rack up a quadruple of tons, though, as Yuan Sijun did likewise - 104, 111, 120 and 109 - in a 6-4 win over Michael Holt, who he himself chipped in with a 125.

In an all-Irish meeting, Aaron Hill deposited the opening frame with a 131 before Mark Allen took six of the next seven frames (103 break, frame 7) as he ran out a 6-2 victor.

Joe O'Connor (113) and Hossein Vafaei (116) also fashioned three-figure contributions during 6-1 wins against Anthony McGill and Dylan Emery, respectively.

Home hero Ding Junhui dispatched Martin O'Donnell 6-1 and Jackson Page got the better of David Gilbert, 6-4.

The final result of the day went the way of world number 11 Ali Carter who ousted Ross Muir, 6-5.
