The televised stages of the 2024 English Open professional snooker event get underway on Monday at the Brentwood Centre, and several star names are set to be playing in front of the cameras, including world number one and defending champion Judd Trump.

Three days of action in the fourth ranking event of the 2024/25 season have already taken place in Essex, but day four of the £550,400 tournament is when the top 32 seeds begin to make their entrance in round three (last 64).

However, there are still four outstanding round two ties to be completed, including three-time ranking event winner Ricky Walden meeting former World Women’s Champion Mink Nutcharut, and an all-Welsh affair between teenage rookie Liam Davies versus the vastly experienced Dominic Dale who has said this will be his last season on the professional tour.

The television coverage begins from the afternoon session, with the two most successful players in English Open snooker history scheduled to be on the baize. Both Mark Selby and Judd Trump have lifted this trophy twice; Selby faces Ireland’s number one Aaron Hill while reigning champion Trump has a date with Liu Hongyu.

Trump will look to continue his blistering start to the new season; he has already claimed both the Shanghai Masters and Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters titles, winning 15 of his 16 matches in total, this term.

Last year here, Trump came back from 7-3 down to Zhang Anda in the final, stringing together six successive frames to lift The Steve Davis Trophy again. That victory sparked a sensational next 11 months or so; the 35-year-old Englishman currently holds seven professional titles.

Zhang himself returns to the venue of his maiden ranking event final appearance. The world number 12 is up against the very dangerous Mark Davis.

In the evening session in Brentwood, current World Champion Kyren Wilson plays David Grace who whitewashed Marco Fu 4-0 in round two. Wilson already has silverware on his shelf from this season following his title triumph at the Xi’an Grand Prix in China last month.

New top 16 star Si Jiahui - a semi-finalist in Riyadh several days ago - meets Andrew Pagett, while exciting teenage prospect Artemijs Zizins from Lativa takes on seed Joe O’Connor.

Crucible finalist Jak Jones and career Triple Crown winner Shaun Murphy are some of the other names set to cue up.
