The fourth ranking event title of the season, a top prize of £100,000, and the Steve Davis Trophy will be won by either Wu Yize or Neil Robertson on Sunday following the conclusion of the 2024 English Open.

It has been a tournament of surprises at the Brentwood Centre, which led to a last four line-up without a player ranked within the world's top 23.

However, we have had a very intriguing climax to the tournament in Essex which culminates in an exciting young prospect in his maiden ranking final, and one of snooker's all-time greats who is back in a ranking final for the first time in nearly two-and-a-half years.

World number 40 Wu began his English Open campaign in round two before the televised final stages started. En route to the showpiece fixture, the 20-year-old from China has seen off Stuart Bingham, Ali Carter, and defending champion and world number one, Judd Trump.

In only his second ranking event semi-final, Wu whitewashed Ishpreet Singh Chadha - who himself enjoyed a massive breakthrough week - 6-0 on Saturday, to guarantee the biggest payday of his career and a spot within the world's top 32 for the first time.

Named 'Rookie of the Year' for the 2021/22 season, Wu is the 14th Chinese player to make a ranking event final.

Career Triple Crown winner Neil Robertson is hoping his efforts in Brentwood this week will rejuvenate his career, having slipped outside the world's elite band earlier this year.

A quarter-finalist at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters in Riyadh a few weeks ago, the 42-year-old Australian has dropped only five frames from five matches here this week.

On Saturday night, Robertson eliminated Chris Wakelin 6-1 to reach his 37th ranking event final, but his first since April 2022 when he won the Tour Championship.

Aiming for ranking title number 24, Robertson - who was number 26 in the standings coming into the competition - will climb back into the world's top 16 if he collects the six-figure winner's purse.

Having been a runner-up in this Home Nations event in 2020 and a champion of it in 2021, it will be Robertson's third English Open final bow.

In terms of previous head-to-heads between Wu and Robertson, they have previously met three times on the World Snooker Tour, all of which came in 2023.

Robertson leads the record 2-1, with their most famous meeting being their first which came at the Crucible Theatre in the first round of the 2023 World Championship.

On that occasion, Robertson won 10-3 and they registered six century breaks between them; four of which came from a red-hot Robertson including two 146s in the space of the final three frames.
