2024 English Open Snooker, Day 3 Report: He Guoqiang sets up rematch with Ronnie O'Sullivan

World Snooker Tour
The last 64 line-up for the 2024 English Open at the Brentwood Centre is nearly finalised following the completion of the majority of the remaining round two matches on Saturday.

The televised stages of the fourth ranking event of the 2024/25 season begin on Monday, when the top 32 seeds start to enter the fray. These highest ranked cueists will be joined by the 32 players who emerge from the opening two rounds in Essex. The last four round two ties will be contested on Monday.

Last season's World Snooker Tour Rookie of the Year He Guoqiang is scheduled to face Ronnie O'Sullivan in round three after ousting Wang Yuchen, 4-3. The Chinese cueist defeated O'Sullivan 3-0 earlier in the season at the behind-closed-doors Championship League Snooker in their first and - to date - only professional meeting.

Runner-up at the aforementioned Championship League was Jackson Page, in what was his maiden ranking event final appearance. The young Welshman took just 43 to dismiss Egypt's Mostafa Dorgham, 4-0, rattling in breaks of 78, 71, 102 and 52 in the process. It's Neil Robertson next for Page.

Jiang Jun was in brilliant scoring form as he registered runs of 56, 87, 141 and 68 in a 4-2 victory over Chinese compatriot Tian Pengfei.

Latvian teenager Artemijs Zizins continues to raise eyebrows during his rookie season as a professional; the 18-year-old fashioned an effort of 138 in the opening frame of his 4-2 win against Robbie Williams.

Joe Perry top scored with a 97 on his way to eliminating Jimmy White, 4-1. India's number one Ishpreet Singh Chadha got the better of 2006 World Champion Graeme Dott, 4-2, highlighting a break of 88 along the way.

Jamie Jones made a 130 in his 4-0 win against Joshua Thomond, and Andrew Higginson also crafted a three-figure contribution - a 107 - before pipping Daniel Wells, 4-3.

Andrew Pagett, Mark Davis and Xu Si each defied a century break from their opponent in respective victories over Jordan Brown, Xing Zihao and Ka Wai Cheung.

A quarter-finalist at the recent Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, Jimmy Robertson continued his fine run of results as he progressed to the next round after seeing off Alexander Ursenbacher, 4-1.

David Grace arranged a round three date with reigning World Champion Kyren Wilson after whitewashing Marco Fu 4-0 with the help of breaks of 80 and 88.

Matthew Stevens, Long Zehuang, Jamie Clarke, Anthony Hamilton, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Ross Muir were Saturday’s other winners.
