147 Record Broken: World Snooker Tour records highest number of seasonal maximum breaks

It was an historic day for the World Snooker Tour on Monday as new achievements were made during the third qualifying round for the 2025 World Snooker Championship at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Page’s feat of unprecedented double perfection came in frames eight and 12 of his 10-2 win over Allan Taylor. The young Welshman’s efforts could see him collect £172,000 in bonus prizes.

But Page also contributed to a new overall record for the professional circuit. His 147s over the past couple of days in Yorkshire were the 13th and 14th maximum breaks of the 2024/25 top tier season - his latest offering sets a new benchmark for the highest number of 147s made in a single professional season.

The tally of 14 eclipses the totals of 13 which were recorded in the 2016/17, 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns.

147 breaks made during the 2024/25 snooker season

Thailand's Noppon Saengkham opened this season's account at the start of September when he made a 147 in the inaugural edition of the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters in Riyadh.

The feat banked Saengkham a £50,000 bonus as no else matched it in the tournament. It was the third maximum of his career; he also made the most recent one on the overall list during then 2024 World Championship qualifiers in the previous season.

Two more maximums were made in September - Fan Zhengyi's first as a professional during the qualifying rounds of the English Open in Brentwood, and Mark Allen's fourth during the main venue stages of the British Open in Cheltenham.

Allen's feat of perfection came on a table that a few days earlier he said should be 'burned'.

Si Jiahui was the next newcomer to the 147 club as he fashioned one during his memorable semi-final victory over world number one and title holder Judd Trump at the Wuhan Open in October.

The following 147 was also made by a Chinese player on home soil; this time by Xu Si at the International Championship in Nanjing.

Zhang Anda scored the final professional 147 of 2024 during his round one match at the UK Championship at the Barbican in York.

Three 147s were conjured up during January in contrasting surroundings.

Crucible finalist Jak Jones made his first in pro competition at the behind-closed-doors Championship League Invitational in Leicester. This was one of 32 century breaks that Jones chalked up throughout the event - a new world record.

From no fans in attendance, to lots of them. Shaun Murphy won the 2025 Masters at the packed Alexandra Palace in London and en route he crafted a maximum 147 break during his semi-final victory over Mark Allen.

Back at the Championship League Invitational, David Gilbert added to the haul, before Mark Selby did likewise in the same event, this time on the final day of the Winners' Group at the Mattioli Arena.

A few hours later, home hero Selby successfully defended the title - quite a day that was for him.

The following day on the circuit, the ink from Selby's 147 was barely dry as Xu added his name to the roll of honour again - his second of the term - during Welsh Open qualifying.

Maximum number three for February came courtesy of the in-form Murphy, who like Xu, completed his second perfect frame of the season, this time in Yushan, China during the World Open.

There were no 147s made at the next three competitions on the tour - the Players Series trio of the World Grand Prix, Players Championship, and Tour Championship, but Page's double max in successive days and the same match made up for any lost time.

The first official 147 in professional action was produced by Steve Davis at the 1982 Classic, and was recorded by television cameras.

Despite having not made one since 2018, Ronnie O'Sullivan still holds the record for the most 147s made on the pro circuit with 15 - three of these have come at the Crucible Theatre during the World Championship.

Only three other players have reached double figures for maximums - John Higgins (13), Stephen Hendry (11) and Shaun Murphy (10).
