World Championship finalist Jak Jones has written himself into the record books during the 2025 Championship League Snooker Invitational Event at the Mattioli Arena.

Welshman Jones created history on Tuesday afternoon in Leicester by compiling the most century breaks ever made by one player in a professional snooker event.

The world number 18 registered his world record-breaking 24th ton of the behind-closed-doors tournament in the third and final frame of his 3-0 round robin victory over Matthew Selt. The effort was also a maximum 147 attempt which came short on 113 when Jones missed a ridiculously difficult 15th black with the cueball in the baulk area.

Ironically, Jones surpassed the previous record of 23 that was shared by Kyren Wilson and Selt - who both set that benchmark in this competition in 2021 and 2023, respectively.

This year's Championship League Invitational - an event which has a unique format and prize money structure - has been a very memorable outing for 31-year-old Jones, who has appeared in every group, so far, having started his campaign in Group One that began on January 3rd.

Jones has qualified for the playoffs of every group so far (finishing inside the top four of the seven-player round robin group), making the Group 1, 2, 3 and 4 finals, and the semi-finals of Group 5.

In those finals, Hossein Vafaei (3-1), Si Jiahui (3-2), Kyren Wilson (3-2) and Mark Selby (3-0) have defeated and denied him a spot in the Winners' Group in February. Selt eliminated him 3-1 in the semis of the latest group, but Jones will be back for more in Group 6 that takes place on January 22 and 23.

At present, Jones' century count for the tournament stands at 26, with the potential for several more to be added to that tally. He has already played 39 matches in this year's edition, with at least six more to come in Group 6.

Jak Jones - century breaks per group:

Group 1 - 4

Group 2 - 5

Group 3 - 3

Group 4 - 8

Group 5 - 6

Total (after his semi-final loss in Group 5): 26

In Group 2, Jones crafted his first maximum 147 break in professional play during a round robin match against Chris Wakelin.

The tournament is becoming a very nice earner for Jones, who has already collected over £20,000 for his efforts - currently more than double the running prize money of anyone else, including all the group winners, so far.
