The initial phase of the 2024 Wuhan Open was completed on Tuesday at the Mattioli Arena as another series of players qualified for the main venue stages of the World Snooker Tour ranking event which take place in China in October.

Mark Allen played his first ranking event match as the world number one during the morning session, seeing off reigning world women's snooker champion Bai Yulu, 5-1.

The Northern Irishman made a 31 clearance to win the opening frame on the final black before doubling and then tripling that lead.

21-year-old Chinese cueist Bai - who is in her rookie season as a professional - got on the board as a 69 break helped her secure frame four, although following the mid-session interval, Allen crafted a run of 102 before wrapping up victory in frame six.

In a meeting of former world champions, Neil Robertson notched up efforts of 55, 101, 91 and 80 in a 5-0 whitewash over Ken Doherty.

Jack Lisowski can also make travel plans for the Far East trip as he highlighted a 126 break in a 5-2 win against Liam Graham.

Hong Kong's Marco Fu was in fine scoring form as he recorded one of his best victories of recent times. The three-time ranking event winner contributed with 64, 59, 105 and 57 during a 5-1 defeat of Zhou Yuelong.

World Championship runner-up Jak Jones defeated Ross Muir 5-3 to qualify; the world number 14 racked up breaks of 116, 77, 89 and 102 in a 5-3 success. Mark Davis also constructed two tons (122, 100) as he progressed with a 5-3 win against Chris Totten.

Youngster Stan Moody finished off with a break of 135 in his 5-2 victory over Matthew Stevens.

Louis Heathcote, Dylan Emery, Andrew Pagett, Xiao Guodong and Jimmy Robertson were also winners on Tuesday in Leicester.
