The 16 players who are guaranteed a place in the main draw for the Crucible Theatre extravaganza

The 16 seed players, and their respective positions within the draw, for the main stages of the 2024 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre are now known.

A total of 32 players will perform on snooker’s grandest stage between Saturday 20th April to Monday 6th May in the sport’s blue riband event. This field will comprise of the 16 seeds and the 16 qualifiers who emerge from the preliminary phases of the tournament held at the English Institute for Sport in Sheffield only a few days before.

These qualifiers will be drawn at random against the seeds to set up the round one fixture list, although we already know where the seeds will be positioned in the draw bracket.

Following Mark Williams’ success at the Tour Championship earlier this month - the final event before the 2024 World Snooker Championship - the world rankings were updated and the order of the seeds confirmed.

We already knew that the defending champion Luca Brecel will be the number one seed, a position the world title holder assumes for the event, regardless of their world ranking.

Runner-up at the Tour Championship, Ronnie O’Sullivan remains as the world number one and therefore slots in as the number two seed.

Zhang Anda and Tom Ford will be seed players at the Crucible for the first time in their careers. Both Zhang and Ford have yet to win a match at the venue.

Seed players and numbers for the 2024 World Snooker Championship:

1. Luca Brecel

2. Ronnie O'Sullivan

3. Judd Trump

4. Mark Allen

5. Mark Selby

6. Mark Williams

Whilst we don’t know the opening round match-ups for the Crucible until the qualifying rounds are completed and the draw is conducted, we do know where the seed players sit in the draw bracket.

As the number one seed, Brecel is placed at the top of the draw. Number two seed O’Sullivan is at the bottom. This means that Brecel and O’Sullivan can not meet until the final (if they both get that far, of course).

A five-time ranking event winner this term, number three seed Judd Trump is in the bottom half of the draw. Current Shoot Out and Players Championship title holder Mark Allen is in the top half.
