The biggest and longest snooker show of the year is here, as the best cueists on the planet take to the green baize for the 2025 World Snooker Championship.

The iconic Crucible Theatre has been home to snooker’s blue riband event ever since 1977, and the sport’s grandest stage in Sheffield will host this year’s tournament between Saturday 19th April to Monday 5th May.

A worldwide audience is set to tune in for the 17-day spectacular, with players such as Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and Ding Junhui in pursuit of snooker’s ultimate accolade and a £500,000 first prize.

Kyren Wilson is the reigning and defending World Champion having won the title for the first time in his career 12 months ago after an 18-14 victory over qualifier Jak Jones in the final. ‘The Warrior’ is back, and aiming to create history by becoming the first first-time champion at the hallowed venue to retain the crown, therefore breaking the ‘Crucible Curse’.

The host broadcaster for the 2025 World Snooker Championship is once again the BBC in the UK.

The station has been integral to the development and success of the professional snooker circuit over the past half century, having shown and supported the Championship every year since its move to the Crucible. The BBC has stuck with snooker through difficult times, and continues to be rewarded by pulling in huge television audiences for its events - bucking the general decline of linear sporting audiences.

But the BBC is far from the only station or platform to show this year’s Championship, with the tournament accessible in all four corners of the globe.

Also in the UK, TNT Sports will show its first World Snooker Championship having taken over the reigns from Eurosport for the region. Eurosport will continue to beam the competition across mainland Europe.

Who are the presenters and commentators for the BBC during the 2025 World Snooker Championship?

Familiar faces Hazel Irvine, Seema Jaswal and Rishi Persad will be the presenting team for the BBC during the Championship.

Lead presenter Irvine has been a mainstay of snooker coverage on the channel since 2001.

Irvine received an MBE through the 2024 New Year Honours list for her services to sport and charity, and a few months ago she won a BAFTA Scotland Outstanding Contribution to Television award.

Shabnam Younus-Jewell and Abigail Davies will be roaming reporters for the event.

A plethora of famous snooker stars will make up the punditry and commentary teams for the BBC at the Crucible, with John Virgo, Dennis Taylor, John Parrott, Steve Davis, Ken Doherty and Stephen Hendry all set for media duties.

Current players such as reigning Masters champion Shaun Murphy are also expected to take to the commentary booth at times throughout the 17 days.

It was announced earlier this season that the BBC will continue to showcase snooker into the future, as the organisation signed a five-year contract extension with the World Snooker Tour to broadcast the sport’s three biggest events - the UK Championship, Masters and World Championship - until at least 2032.

The agreement will keep the Triple Crown events free-to-air for UK audiences.
