2025 World Snooker Championship: Day one qualifying report as first results recorded

At the end of these 10 dramatic days in Yorkshire, 16 qualifiers will emerge for the main draw and televised stages at the Crucible which start on Saturday 19th April. These qualifiers will be randomly drawn against the top 16 seeds.
The World Championship uses a tiered system, meaning players enter the fray depending on their world ranking position. There are four qualifying rounds in total, with the lowest ranked professionals and amateur invites starting their title tilts over the first three days.

Hammad Miah, the world number 83 who is battling to keep his professional tour card, was the first player to win a match in this year's tournament as he whitewashed Brazil's Jonas Luz, 10-0. Miah top scored with a break of 104 during the tie and sets up a qualifying round two tie with Malaysia's number one player, Rory Thor.
Polish amateur Mateusz Baranowski caused an upset as he defeated Iran's Amir Sarkhosh 10-2, highlighting a run of 104 in the process. Baranowski received an invite due to reaching the semi-finals of the World Snooker Federation Championship in Morocco earlier this year.
Another player without a professional tour card who advanced was Welshman Dylan Emery.
A recent semi-finalist at the European Amateur Snooker Championship in Türkiye, Emery registered eight half-century breaks in a 10-4 win over Latvian teenager Artemijs Zizins.
