2025 British Open Snooker: Draw, results, format, order of play, prize money, how to watch
The main venue, televised stages of the 2025 British Open snooker event take place at the Cheltenham Racecourse between Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th September.
A world ranking event with a total prize fund of over half-a-million pounds, contestants are aiming to lift The Clive Everton Trophy. The reigning champion is Mark Selby who defeated John Higgins in last year’s final.

The British Open initially featured on the professional snooker calendar every year from 1985 to 2004, and it was one of the most lucrative events on the tour. Inaugural champion Silvino Francisco collected £50,000, which at the time was the richest first prize in top flight snooker history.
After a 17-year hiatus from the circuit, the British Open was resurrected in 2021 and has again been held annually since.
How does the British Open draw work and what is the format?
A total of 128 players started out in this year’s competition, although only just over half will be in Cheltenham.
Open to all professional tour card holders, the British Open is a straight knockout event with a flat draw, meaning all players start out in the opening round.
Unlike almost all the other tournaments on the World Snooker Tour, the British Open uses a completely random draw for each and every round of the event. Similar to what is seen in FA Cup football, there is no seeding, therefore the world’s top ranked players can draw each other right from the very start.
The majority of first round matches in the 2025 British Open were played in Leicester in June, although opening assignments involving the sport’s biggest stars have been held over to the TV lights of Cheltenham.
Matches up to and including the last 16 are the best of seven frames. The quarter-finals are the best of nine, semi-finals are the best of 11, and the two-session final is the best of 19.

Who is playing in the 2025 British Open?
All the world's top 16 players - with the only exception of Ding Junhui - entered this year's edition, although Ronnie O'Sullivan subsequently withdrew due to medical reasons.
No British Open champion has retained the crown, so Selby will be trying to create history when he defends the title, while world number one Judd Trump and current World Champion Zhao Xintong will both be trying to add this accolade to their career CV.
Kyren Wilson, Neil Robertson and Xiao Guodong - all title winners on the World Snooker Tour last month - are set for action, as too are 'Class of 92' members Mark Williams and John Higgins, who between them have claimed the British Open title seven times (three to Williams, four to Higgins).
