Grace hadn't enjoyed his time in Leicester over the past few days after losing both his Xi'an Grand Prix and Wuhan Open qualifying matches, but he is set for Cheltenham, as breaks of 101, 54 and 58 helped him to victory over the six-time ranking event finalist.
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh was the first player through to round two; he eliminated Alexander Ursenbacher 4-1 inside an hour, highlighting runs of 54, 88, 63 and 80.
A few months ago, Farakh Ajaib defeated Iulian Boiko in the final round of the final 2024 UK/Europe Q School event to regain a professional tour and in the process deny his Ukrainian opponent a return to snooker's top tier. However, today, competing as an amateur top-up, Boiko got the better of Ajaib, 4-2.
Allan Taylor recovered from 3-1 down to deny rookie professional Artemijs Zizins, 4-3.

Mark Davis crafted a 108 in a 4-0 whitewash of Robbie McGuigan.
Michael Holt (breaks of 61, 58 and 54) restricted Reanne Evans to a tally of just 27 points throughout their match as he advanced as a 4-0 victor.
Noppon Saengkham was in fine scoring form as he racked up efforts of 100, 84 and 127 during a three-frame burst to lead Joe Perry 3-1, having been behind early on.
Perry claimed the next two frames to force a decider, but Thai ace Saengkham squeezed through to keep his hopes in this competition afloat.
There were also victories for Si Jiahui, Jamie Clarke, Liam Graham, Ma Hailong and Martin O’Donnell.
