Snooker legend Jimmy White makes maximum 147 break in final as he wins London club tournament

World Snooker Tour
Jimmy White completed snooker perfection earlier this week as he compiled a maximum 147 break on his way to winning a pro-am tournament in London.

Green baize legend White - who still competes on the professional World Snooker Tour at the age of 62 - was one of several players taking part in the one-day event held at Frames Sports Bar in Coulsdon.

Initially, players faced each other in a round robin format as they tried to qualify for and reach the best of seven frames final.

Former UK and Masters champion White got through, and met ex-professional Peter Devlin in the title match.

Played on a table with similar conditions to those seen on the sport’s top tier, White was in heavy-scoring form as he fashioned breaks of 112, 147, 76 and 80 in a 4-1 victory.

White famously made the second 147 break in World Championship history during his first round match against Tony Drago in 1992 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The feat earned the Londoner a £100,000 bonus and an additional £14,000 for the highest break of the tournament.

Runner-up in that event, White ended up winning more prize than the champion Stephen Hendry did.

It is a busy and important few weeks coming up for one of snooker’s most popular players, ever. On Saturday, White plays a special exhibition match against local hero Marco Fu at the Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong, the newly opened, state-of-the-art venue for the ongoing World Grand Prix ranking event.

Then, next month, White is set to take part in the qualifying rounds for the 2025 World Snooker Championship which are held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield between April 7-16.

Six-time World Championship finalist White is aiming to qualify for the televised stages of snooker’s blue riband event for the first time since 2006. The 10-time ranking event champion will need to win multiple qualifying matches to do so, but he made a bullish comment about his chances last month at the Welsh Open.

White has had a decent season on the professional circuit, winning several matches and having a run to the last 32 of the Northern Ireland Open, defeating Jackson Page and Hossein Vafaei along the way.
