Matthew Selt fined £10,000 by snooker authorities for rude and aggressive language

The sport's governing body - the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) - released an official statement on Sunday 23rd February explaining the situation and subsequent punishment handed out to current world number 33 Selt.
The article states that ranking event winner Selt was "aggressive in his behaviour and was rude and abusive in his language towards a Matchroom Senior Executive in the presence of an important WST Partner", "sent an abusive text to a WPBSA Member" and "was aggressive in his behaviour and was rude and abusive in his language towards a WPBSA Member".

Selt has admitted and apologised for his actions. It was noted that Selt was "under a significant amount of stress and pressure at the time of the incidents."
On top of the suspended sentence, Selt will need to pay a fine of £10,000, and pay £11,000 towards the WPBSA's legal costs.
It is not the first time that Selt has been in hot water with snooker’s authorities. In 2022, he was ordered to pay a fine of £2,000 and warned about his future conduct over private messages he sent to a member of public on a social media platform that were considered to be abusive.
A few months ago at the 2025 German Masters qualifiers in Sheffield, Selt regretted an outburst in the arena after his opponent Artemijs Zizins fluked a crucial ball in the deciding frame of their match that Selt lost.
