How the professional snooker rankings changed throughout the 2023/24 season; looking at who gained and who dropped

Starting in June and finishing in May, the 2023/24 professional season is now over. It has been an intriguing campaign with a full programme of Chinese events for the first time in nearly four years following Covid disruption.

Those big money tournaments have helped contribute to a changing world rankings landscape, with respective prize-money effectively transferred into points. Below is a list of the top 64 players from the end of season rankings and how their ranking position changed from the start to the end of the term. We also specifically look at the biggest swings in both directions.

Some of the ranking changes show how much difference a few chunks of money coming off a two-year cumulative list can make

Note: We have only looked at the top 64 as these are a ‘truer’ reflection of the rankings; many of those outside the top 64 are either on the first or second year of their two-season tour cards so don’t have points to defend from previous seasons. In the top 64 list below, we have highlighted who this affects.

However, special mentions to Si Jiahui, Michael White, Aaron Hill, Sanderson Lam and David Lilley for all getting into the top 64 within two seasons.

Martin O’Donnell, in only his first season back on the tour, has already broken into the top 64 and will surely continue to go up with any prize money he earns this season. He Guoqiang - the WST Rookie of the Year - and Daniel Wells are also on the cusp of the top 64 after only one season.
