At the curtain-raising Championship League in Leicester, O'Sullivan was eliminated in stage one after finishing third in his group. From his three matches, he won (3-0 v Kayden Brierley), drew (2-2 Mitchell Mann) and lost (3-0 He Guoqiang). He picked up £1,000 for his efforts that day.
A few weeks later, O'Sullivan travelled to China to defend the Shanghai Masters title.
Winner of each of the last four editions of the lucrative invitational, O'Sullivan defeated teenage wildcard Zhou Jinhao 6-1 in the last 16 before compiling a break of 131 during a 6-3 success over Ding Junhui in the semi-finals.
However, O'Sullivan's incredible 21-match winning streak in the Shanghai Masters was broken by eventual champion Judd Trump, who ended his reign 10-3 in the semi-finals.

At the inaugural Xi’an Grand Prix - a £850,000 ranking event - O’Sullivan dropped just three frames in four matches as he coasted to the quarter-finals where he ousted Matthew Selt, 5-4. However, despite rallying from 5-1 down, O’Sullivan bowed out to World Champion Kyren Wilson in the semi-finals.
In the Middle East for the inaugural Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, O’Sullivan defeated Lei Peifan 5-1 in his first match before coming back from 3-0 down to deny Zhang Anda 6-5 in the last 16. However, his journey in Riyadh came to an end in the quarter-finals as he bowed out to Si Jiahui, 6-4.
At the 2024 English Open in Brentwood - a very local event for him - O’Sullivan suffered an early exit as he lost 4-2 to He Guoqiang in his opening match of the tournament.
O’Sullivan was due to play at the British Open, Wuhan Open and Northern Ireland Open, but withdrew from all events. It was announced by the World Snooker Tour that his withdrawals from both Wuhan and Belfast (NI Open) were due to medical reasons.

The Englishman returned to competitive action at the 2024 International Championship in Nanjing in November. He defeated Mink Nutcharut and He Guoqiang in the opening two rounds before losing 6-4 to Pang Junxu in the last 32.
At the Champion of Champions in Bolton in mid-November, O’Sullivan was stunned by debutant Xiao Guodong in the first round. A brilliant contest of high quality, Xiao didn’t score a single point in the opening three frames, but strung together the next four for a 4-3 victory.
Next up was the UK Championship, but O’Sullivan’s title defence didn’t past the opening session of the tournament in York, as Barry Hawkins won four successive frames from 4-2 down to eliminate the record eight-time champion.
O’Sullivan withdrew from the 2024 Scottish Open in December. The following he week he played at the 2024 Riyadh Season Snooker Championship where he was the defending champion.

After whitewashing Ding Junhui 4-0 in his opening match, O’Sullivan was eliminated 4-2 by eventual champion Mark Allen.
Having spent the Christmas and New Year period in the Far East playing on the lucrative exhibition circuit, O’Sullivan’s first competitive action of 2025 came at the behind-closed-doors Championship League Invitational in Leceister.
Perhaps primarily used as match practice for the upcoming Masters, O’Sullivan was left very frustrated as he lost four of his five group matches, so much so that he withdrew from the event with one match still to play.
It was announced by the World Snooker Tour the next day that O’Sullivan - who was the reigning champion - had withdrawn from the 2025 Masters at the Alexandra Palace on medical grounds.
