Xi’an Grand Prix Snooker: Information on China’s newest ranking event

A brand-new Chinese ranking event will feature on the professional snooker circuit in the 2024/25 season with the introduction of the big money Xi’an Grand Prix.

It will be the first time that the city of Xi’an - located in the Shaanxi Province with a population of 13 million people – will host a top-level snooker tournament.

A multi-year contract has been signed that will see the total prize money rise from £850,000 in year one to £900,000 in year three. The winner of the inaugural event is set to pocket £177,000.

The main event is set to take place between August 19-25, although there is a qualifying phase in Leicester, England scheduled between July 25-27. It has yet to be announced who will need to play in these qualifiers.

Ranking snooker returned to China in the 2023/24 season following a hiatus due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Another new ranking event – the Wuhan Open – was held for the first time in October 2023 and won by Judd Trump.
